Michael Stark:

Lorys...

I don't understand what you're trying to tell us, GIS is a discipline not an explicite software or any existing solution.

ok Michael

I did say the Stephans solution was best but what I was trying to say as this user has no idea about how to go and  create or edit vba.... was  that this problem would be best done in a GIS package like for example MapInfo as if the grids were real squares with values you could use "contains" to get the table values of the grid square and what it contains and filter only the cells desired...

But it was only meant to be in passing the export coords could be used to get the coords or even a selection set using the select by to get only the cells and list the coords and excell could be used to determine or translate what gid values they fit into  while more work .. more people can handle excel then vba

But my original solution for non coder using tags would have been the easiest for a novice especially with the link to tags tutorial...

but again we are all here to help and I believe offering alternative options to a users post is a good thing .. however I concede that I should have replied as a post to outside the programming forum  as my solution options were not programming in nature...
