I guess to say you're not using this method to design the dialog
He he he, it's funny and completely wrong. I used both traditional .r approach and WinForms, depending if a customer or project specifics require to use native code or NET.

because if you follow this guide you will not be able to do something out.
It's not tutorial nor guide, it's help file, so it's not written as step by step workflow (and I agree for 100% it's bad such material is not available). As far as I remember, when I learned MDL, I used approach Jon has recommended to you also: Not focus to help file only, but to learn from fdf and h files also (which is a good training in general). I started with delivered examples (like basic) and modified the code to be more and more closer to my intentions. And in some moment I was able to write own code.
clever_anthony:
At least in MDL help file it would explain what is it in each term inside a function.
If you miss anything, ask specifically for the parameter or function that is not clear to you.

Where is the RDE...
The whole MDE including RDE was officially retired when MicroStation 8.0 was released, but it was still delivered with MicroStation to V8 XM Edition. The newer versions don't contain it.
